CALL BY MISS LYDIA DUNN CBE, ON MR LUCE ON MONDAY 20 JUNE ( 12.30)
1.
I attach a brief for the Minister for Miss Lydia Dunn's
call on him on 20 June, which includes a general background brief
on Hong Kong. The call is primarily a courtesy one and we understand
from the Hong Kong Government Office that she will not be raising
specific issues. But I have included defensive briefing on
Vietnamese refugees, a topic on which she has recently shown
interest, and discretionary registration under the British
Nationality Act, in case these are touched on. Mr Donald, on
whom Miss Dunn will call earlier, will attend.
2.
The main purpose of Miss Dunn's visit to the UK was to
preside at the opening of the new London offices of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, of which she was appointed Chairman
on 1 April. This ceremony took place on 13 June. Lord Belstead
was invited but had to decline because of the election.

Also on 13 June Miss Dunn hosted a dinner at the Berkeley
Hotel at which Lord Cockfield spoke.
3.
She also attended the Hong Kong Association's Dragonboat
dinner on 15 June at which Mr Rees spoke.
Miss Dunn was awarded a CBE in the Birthday Honours.
had previously been awarded the OBE in 1978.
