1. In case you have not seen it may I draw your attention to a report in SWB FE 7470/B11/4 concerning the sentencing of a Macao bank robber by Canton Intermediate People's Court.

2. On 18 October 1980 seven armed robbers held up the Nam Tung Bank in Macao and seized more than 1,800,000 Hong Kong dollars. chief cashier was shot dead and another man was wounded. Two of the robbers fled to Canton. They were apprehended by the People's Police and eventually brought to trial on 16 August 1983. One, Zhou Tiesheng, was sentenced to death, and the other Liang Timei, who had frankly confessed and handed back the money he had, was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

3. On the face of it, it is rather odd that a Canton court should have jurisidction over a crime committed in Macao. Perhaps this is a practical reflection as part of the contacts of whatever agreement the Chinese and Portuguese reached over Macao.
