EXTRADITION OF HONG KONG CHINESE SEAMAN TO MONROVIA

1.

We spoke on the telephone this morning and you agreed to take this on.

2.

The Liberian Ambassador called today and I enclose the original of a Note he left with us. I also enclose copies of two telegrams recently sent to Hong Kong.

3.

Mr MacRae gave the Liberian Ambassador the name of your Heads of Department and informed him that HKGD would now take the lead and be in touch with him in due course about the case. We said that a telex had been sent on 13 August about this case. An absence of reply from Hong Kong had led us to believe the matter was being dealt with direct through the Maritime Authorities.

4.

further

In my telegram of today, I promised to send' details to Hong Kong which might come to light during the Ambassador's call. Other than the enclosed Note, no further information was gleaned. We should be grateful if you would keep the Liberian Embassy posted on the progress of this case.
