10.30 a.m. on the 18th September, 1980. There was clear evidence that
Mrs Ho left home to go shopping at about 9 a.m. She was seen by a neighbour
some time between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. a block or two from where she lived
and going in the direction of her home.
At this time her amah, LEUNG Kim, was inside the flat looking after the
two infants.
It is crystal clear the defendant gained access to the flat shortly after
9.30 a.m. and most probably before Mrs Ho had returned home. I believe

satisfied, as indeed were the police and also the prosecutor, that he
killed the amah before he killed his aunt.

The circumstances of each killing were brutal and callous.
The amah's body was found on the lower bunk bed in one of the bedrooms.
Her hands were tied behind her back; she had been blindfolded and gagged.
She sustained 3 cut injuries to her neck and bruises to her face and body.
Of the three cut wounds to her neck, two were superficial and one was fatal.
Her jugular vein was severed and she died within ten minutes of the
fatal blow. Her legs were not tied.
Mrs Ho sustained one cut wound to the neck. It was a blow inflicted by a
chopper taken from the kitchen and with considerable force. It severed
her carotid artery and her jugular vein. Death would have come to her
more swiftly than to the amah. She was found, trussed-up on a bed in an
adjoining room. Her hands were also tied behind her back; her legs were
bound by belts taken from dresses in the wardrobe in her room and were
secured to the leg of a chest of drawers alongside the bed by means of a
