(the prisoner's brother-in-law)
worked as a mason. He regarded the prisoner a man of good conduct. The prisoner had been talkative and friendly and he often visited the parents-in-law, buying them presents as well. On the whole the prisoner made warm relationship with the in-law family but his activities and conduct outside were not known to Mr. Chan.
(F) Interview with the prisoner
The prisoner was impressed to be a frank and outspoken person during the interview. He gave very great detail about his social background and his previous life style but he showed reluctance to talk about the offence itself, and his relationship with the other persons involved. He looked very concerned towards family and felt sorry for their present difficult situation at his absence,
(G) Summary
Having his mother, brothers and sisters all living in China and having no other close relatives here in Hong Kong, his wife and children are the prisoner's only links of significance. In the previous years therefore, he has worked hard and has taken up the 'profession' being a police informer in order to make big money rewards to supply an affluent, comfortable kind of living for his family. On the other hand however, his 'profession' has required. him to frequently hang around in pleasure spots and link with people in the underworld circle continuously. In spite of all these, the prisoner appears to have a lot of concern and a great sense of responsibility towards his family members who however will have to suffer in the years to come as a result of the prisoner's present predicament.
