a prisoner in Hong Kong Prison humbly showeth that:- 監獄囚犯謹陳
(1)
On 20th February, 1981 your humble petitioner was convicted in the High
Court of Hong Kong, upon a verdict of a jury of seven persons, of the offence of murdering TONG King-wood, and was for that offence sentenced to suffer death in the manner as prescribed by law.
(2)
On 9th July, 1981 the appeal of your humble petitioner was dismissed by the Court of Appeal and he is now a condemned prisoner awaiting execution for the
offence of murder.

Your humble petitioner is seeking the mercy of Your Excellency the Governor
to save him from this punishment.
(4)
Your humble petitioner was born in China and is now aged 40. He is still single. He first came to Hong Kong in June, 1962 and has continuously lived in the Colony ever since. He only received 4 years primary schooling in China. (5)
Ever since his arrival in this Colony, your humble petitioner had been working as a casual worker in the construction field until arrest. He earned an average of $2,000.00 per month then.

Your humble petitioner accepts and avers that by killing the deceased he has offended against the law of this Colony and morality in the most grievous manner. He accepts and avers that nothing can be urged on his behalf in relation
to the offence itself.

Your humble petitioner, however, does aver that the offence was committed with no pre-meditation and evil intention of any sort. It was so tragic that the deceased met his death as a result of a dispute and fight over the volume of the T.V. Set with your humble petitioner who in the ensuing confusion stabbed the deceased. The whole incident was developed in such a way as to be beyond the control of your
humble petitioner.
