GENERAL INFORMATION
The Prisoner was born in a family of the fishing folk in Aberdeen, Hong Kong on 31.7.1954 as confirmed by his Birth Certificate no. 674 Abd. The father was a fisherman before he went to live and work ashore. Consequently the Prisoner was brought up in
a fishing boat and he even attended school for a few years in a fishing boat anchored at the Yaumati Typhoon Anchorage before he followed his family to live ashore.
2. When his parents moved to live in a self-owned flat in Mut Wah Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, the Prisoner continued his studies in the Fung Cheung School for 4 years up to primary 6 level. When he dropped out from school, he became a factory worker in the Tai Tung Textile Factory, Kwun Tong for about a year. But his working pattern became unsteady after he had mixed up with some undesirable characters in the vicinity of his home and involved in some criminal activities as he committed his first offence of Larcency of fixture and he was put on probation 18 months at North Kowloon Magistracy on 5.3.1968 (Case no. NK7438). But he did not appear to have trans- formed his delinquent behaviour as he committed his second offence of (A) Possession of Offensive Weapon in Public Place and (B) Member- ship of a Triad Society on 21.3.1973 and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. Upon his discharge from prison, his character seemed to deteriorate. He cohabited with a young girl Miss WONG Choi-ming in the second half of 1973 after a short acquaintance and this affair was strongly objected by the girl's parents due to the Prisoner's waywardness. In addition, he was financially stressed as he had no proper job though he occasionally worked in the construction site of the Man Yee-Reservoir as a labourer. But his daily wages could hardly be adequate to cover the family maintenance especially his cohabitee had given birth to a baby girl by then. The couple tried every means to tide over the difficulties but they could not make both ends meet and the Prisoner could not stick to a permanent job and he shifted from one to another. At last, he was even involved in a serious offence of Robbery and was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment on 15.1.1975 (Case no. KT506/75) at Kwun Tong Magistracy. Upon his release from prison, he continued his former behavioural pattern though his cohabitee had advised him to lead a proper living by holding some gainful employment but he seemed to turn a deaf ear to her advice. His fifth offence of Assault with Intent to Rob committed on 2.12.1976 made his cohabitee so disappointed that she wished to separate from him. When the Prisoner came out from prison in 1978 he worked in the Chi Sang Paper Products in Kwun Tong as a delivery
