claimed she was

quite ignorant of her husband's outside activities or associations as she seldom asked the prisoner about them. She even claimed she was not aware of the prisoner's gambling habit. She however believed her husband was faithful to her in their marital relationship. Though receiving attention and assistance from the Social Welfare Department, Madam CHUNG was obviously still very upset by the prisoner's present offence. She had no other request to make except her yearning for the prisoner's early release from prison.

Madam WAN claimed she did not have a deep understanding of the prisoner because of their seldom contact and that her daughter had often kept her mouth shut about her living and situation after her marriage. The prisoner also came to know some of them who were affiliated to the "Fuk Yee Hing Triad Society" in his visits which took place more often when he did not have much work to do in the recent year. It was said that the prisoner had kept company with some of them and through them he came to know the two accomplices a few months prior to the offence, though Mr. CHAN allegedly believed the prisoner himself might not have affiliated to the triad society.

Nevertheless he thought that the prisoner was not a big gambler as he usually did not have too much money to gamble. However Mr. CHAN believed the prisoner would never be totally irres- ponsible towards his family despite his gambling habit, and sometimes the prisoner would borrow a few hundred dollars from him for maintenance of the family. Mr. CHAN claimed he was quite shocked by the prisoner's involvement in the present offence, and asked for a chance to commute his sentence,
