In considering the status of the Kowloon Walled City and more generally in the context of the 1997 lease, we would find it helpful to have a detailed map of Hong Kong showing the boundary of the NT as fixed in 1898 (which should be easy) and also the position of the city of Kowloon at that date (which may not be). We would also be interested to know how the boundary was agreed between the NT and that part of the Kowloon peninsula which was ceded in 1860, and what effect, if any, the surveys referred to in the 1898 Convention had on this. As you know, the map annexed to the 1898 Convention is not terribly helpful on these points, but it would be useful if you could provide a translation of the Chinese writing on it.
