I am writing to you concerning the refusal of the Immigration Department in Hong Kong to grant an extension of stay to CHRISTINE VERTUCCI, Co-director of the Asia Monitor Resource Centre.
We understand from the Hong Kong Christian Council, which is our main partner in Hong Kong, that Christine Vertucci has been undertaking valuable work by enabling the Colony's residents to understand their rights under the law. No reason has been given by the Hong Kong Government for the refusal to grant an extension to Ms.Vertucci's visa.
From our knowledge of her work, we find it difficult to understand what grounds there could be for not allowing her continued residence in Hong Kong. Because of the international reputation which Britain has for fair-dealing, we would ask you to inform us of the reasons why her application for a visa renewal was not granted.
