We support the decisions of the Hong Kong Government not to grant an

extension of stay in Hong Kong to Ms Vertucci. It is the policy

of that Government not to give reasons for such decisions.

Ms Vertucci has not been expelled from Hong Kong. Her permission

to stay there expired and has not been renewed.

My right honourable and noble Friend the Foreign Secretary has

received a petition from Ms Vertucci. He has reviewed the

decision and upheld it.

Every Government naturally reserves the right to apply its own

immigration policy in the public interest.

It is absurd to

suggest that this is a violation of human rights.
