1. I submit draft replies to s Questions from Mr Robert Parry for

Priority Written answer on 23 and 24 February. The drafts are based

on information supplied by the Hong Kong Government.

2. All the Questions relate to Ms Vertucci's case with which the Lord

Privy Seal is familiar.

Question 1 asks for a list of those who have made representations

to the Governor concerning Ms Vertucci. We have cleared with Hong Kong

that this information is not confidential and the Home Office have

advised that they would take the same view. A list is attached to the

draft reply. In view of the length of the list, Parliamentary Unit

have recommended that it should not be put in the Official Report but

placed in the Library of the House of Commons.

Question 2 refers to the Asia Monitor Resource Centre and the Kwun

Tong Advisory Service. Ms Vertucci worked for both organisations.

5. Question 3 refers to representations made to the Lord Privy Seal

concerning Ms Vertucci. Apart from PQ's, the Lord Privy Seal has only

received one letter and that from Mr Parry.

6. Questions 4, 5 and 6 relate to chemicals used in the electronics

industry. It is thought by some that Ms Vertucci was not allowed to

/remain
