Miss Joan Lestor asked the Lord Privy Seal how many married women applied for British passports (a) as British- born nationals and (b) as a result of citizenship acquired through marriage, in the most recent year for which the figures are available.
Mr. Luce: No statistical analysis is available of passport holders according to their sex, marital status or the manner in which they acquired British nationality and citizenship. To produce such an analysis for a recent year would involve scrutinising over 2 million passport applications and would be prohibitively expensive.
