Dear Sir:
I have just learned of the decision by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong not to grant an extension of stay in Hong Kong to Christine Vertucci of the Asia Monitor.
As the former representative of the American Friends Service Committee in Hong Kong I continue to be interested in developments there. I read with interest the "Asia Monitor" which Christine Vertucci helps publish and find it well and carefully prepared. I think it would be a serious mistake for the Hong Kong Government to turn away those people working on behalf of the welfare of the people of Hong Kong whose concern includes an attempt to ad- dress policy matters. To do so would tend to limit such workers to people who are imperceptive or callous.
I support the appeal of Christine Vertucci to have her visa extended and urge you to allow her to continue her work in Hong Kong.
