Dear Governor MacLehose:
I have just learned of the refusal of Hong Kong's Immigration Department to grant Christine Vertucci an extension of her employment visa. This letter is to urge that this refusal be reconsidered.
As a doctoral candidate at Princeton University,
I have found Ms. Vertucci in particular and Asia Monitor's resources in general to be of great assistance in my research work. In the Western academic world, Asia Monitor is considered among the best and most reliable sources of information on Asia.
Your refusal to grant Ms. Vertucci an extension of stay would seriously impair Asia Monitor's ability to continue its current high level of work, and would, as such, be a heavy blow to Western scholars like myself trying
to keep abreast of events in Asia.
Therefore, I must strongly protest your action. I urge you to seriously reconsider your decision.
Sincerely,
Robin Popod
