Dear Sir Philip,

The Education Action Group supports Ms. Christine Vertucci's appeal against the Immigration Department's refusal to extend her employment visa and its order to leave Hong Kong by 5th February.

Although EAG concentrates chiefly on education deficiencies, our members protest about injustice in many fields just as Ms. Vertucci has done. We are convinced that being a responsible member of society requires such action.

Occasionally, Government officials even urge citizens to work to alleviate social problems. Therefore, EAC fails to understand why a person who tries to be a responsible citizen concerned about injustice is punished by expulsion while ones who simply concentrate on earning money and ignore social problems are allowed to stay indefinitely.

We assume the Immigration Department's treatment of Ms. Vertucci is to provide an example of what may happen to those who become involved in pressure groups. EAG firmly believes this is useless and, in fact, thankfully encourages additional people to see injustice more clearly and compels those already involved to work even harder.

EAG urges Government to carefully consider her appeal.

Sincerely,

Anthony Ha, Chairman

Millie Carroll, Public Relations Secretary
