Since that time, I have been promoted to the position of
Co-Director, and I also have become one of the legal partners
of the business. If I was to have been denied permission to
stay in Hong Kong, this should, have occurred when I first
applied for a visa, and not now when I have established myself
as a respectable member of the business and social community of
Hong Kong.

Initially, my responsibilities at the Center consisted
of conducting economic research, engaging in journalistic
writing, and doing editorial work. Since I was promoted, I
have assumed the additional responsibilities of senior admini-
strator, treasurer and main fund raiser. Through my untiring
efforts, I have played a key role in the development of the
Center. I have guided and nurtured it and brought it to
fruition. My sudden and unexpected departure from Hong Kong
will bring undue hardship upon the normal operations of the
Center, and will have an adverse effect on the services we
provide to our constituency worldwide.

Since my arrival in Hong Kong I have been concerned
about the social needs of the people here, and have taken to
heart my duty to be a responsible resident of Hong Kong. I
have been an active member of the Kwun Tong Inquiry Service, a
voluntary, informal group which offers free social service
counseling to lower income people in Hong Kong. I have shown
my support for the resettlement of the Yaumatei boat people on
land, an issue which I followed very closely. I drafted a letter
to the editor following the trial of the boat people in February
1979 which criticized the decision of the trial court. This
letter sparked a great public response to the issues raised and,
