LORD PRIVY SEAL'S MEETING WITH MR ROBERT PARRY MP
Line to Take
1.
This decision is one for the Hong Kong Government, who
control their own immigration matters. It is entirely
reasonable for them to have this sort of discretion. It is
not their practice to disclose the reasons for their decision
in individual cases. Ms Vertucci has been so informed.
I am
fully satisfied that they are acting reasonably.
2. [If pressed]
The reason for a refusal of an extension of
stay had nothing to do with her activities over Hong Kong
social issues.
3.
[If pressed] I am not prepared to ask Hong Kong
Government to give her an extension of stay. In any case,
I understand she intends to leave Hong Kong on 19 February.
4.
[If pressed about whether she would be allowed to visit or
work in Hong Kong at any time in the future] The Hong Kong
authorities would consider her case on its merits at the time
and she has been so informed.
