Annex A

Immigration Policy on Entry for Residence ** Reference : XCC (67) 16, XCC (68) 24 and XCC (69) 29

(** This policy does not apply to applicants from

China, persons from China resident in Macau who were not settled in Macau by 14 January 1979, persons from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and UK belongers)

A person may be granted entry for residence

provided that :-

(a) there is no security objection and no

known record of serious crime; and

(b)

there is no likelihood of his becoming a burden on Hong Kong.

Subject to these general conditions, entry may

be approved in the following cases :-

(a) Wives

(b)

An application for a wife to join her husband

in Hong Kong will normally be approved provided that the husband is :-

(i) a bona fide resident; and

(ii) able to support his wife and

provide accommodation.

Husbands

An application for a husband to join his wife.

in Hong Kong will not normally be approved unless -

(i)

he is over 50 years of age and his wife has lived in Hong Kong for at least 10 years; or

(c)

(ii)

he has previously lived in Hong Kong; or

(iii)

he has close business connections with Hong Kong; or

(iv)

there are other strong compassionate or humanitarian

Children

(i)

reasons.

permission to enter Hong Kong will normally be granted to unmarried dependent children under the age of 21 to enable them to join either or both parents, or in the case of orphans, an elder brother or sister, provided that the parent or elder brother or sister, as the case may be is :-
