During the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference in Nassau this autumn, we talked briefly about the question of nomenclature in Hong Kong passports. I promised to look into this on my return.

As you will have heard in the Legislative Council on 24 November, Her Majesty's Government have now decided that the word 'British' should be inserted into all British Dependent Territories Citizens' passports opposite the printed words 'national status'. This will be followed by 'British Dependent Territory Citizen' and the name of the territory. This is, of course, very much on the lines suggested by
