PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION: HONG KONG PASSPORTS
1. As the following PQ was transferred to the FCO at short notice we had to deal with it on the telephone.
2. For the record the question which is for written answer is:
'Michael Colvin (Bristol NW): To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider allowing British citizens from Hong Kong to use the short description 'British' in their passports after 1 January 1983 rather than the longer version 'British Dependent Territory Citizen!'
3. The reply cleared with HKGD and with the Home Office and passed to Parliamentary Unit is:
'I have been asked to reply. The matter of descrip- tions in passports is under consideration'.
