MR ONSLOW'S VISIT TO THE FALKLAND ISLANDS:

1.

BRIEFING

In response to your request I attach a Brief covering the position of the Falkland Islanders as it will be on the commencement of the British Nationality Act 1981; the effect of Lord Bruce's Bill on their position and the effect of the Bill elsewhere. I hope this is what is required.

It is of course not possible to anticipate the outcome of Mr Onslow's forthcoming discussion with Mr Raison. In drafting we have assumed that the Bill will receive qualified support from the government.

2.

Since the Brief has to reach Mr Onslow's office by lunch- time tomorrow there has not been time to clear it with HKGD. Perhaps Mr Clift would telephone any amendments.
