Attached will have seen Mr Pym's minute of that date to Mr Whitelaw pronosing

with reference to Mr Hyde's letter of 31 August. that the above question, which is the subject of a difference of view between our Departments, should await the outcome of the Prime Minister's visit to Hong Kong.

You kindly agreed on the telephone amendments to the Prime Minister's Brief which would fulfil Mr Pym's suggestion, and ! enclose a copy of the corrigendum to Brief No PMVW(82) which we discussed and subsequently managed to get to the Cabinet Office by the deadline on 15 September.

I also enclose in "esponse to your request the original Brief with an apology that it bears amendments in manuscript scribble. It is a cony of the only copy in this Department and I trust you will be able to see how it read originally.
