'However, although this was never discussed formally by Ministers, it is possible that any eventual settlement to the dispute which might have been agreed with the Islanders would have included a provision for the right of abode in the UK for all Islanders. 1

Para 7: Omit altogether.

Para 8: Omit last two sentences ('Presumably ...' to end of para). Replace with:

'No approaches were made to the Argentine authorities at any time because we had no wish to draw the Argentines' attention to the impending change in the status quo. But if they had made difficulties we should naturally have tried to find a way round them. '.

Paras 9 and 10: Omit altogether.
