Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee. has emerged as a powerful and distinguished figure in recent years despite his inadequate experience. As secretary of the Dongguan County Party Committee before the Cultural Revolution, LIN showed great concern for the grievances of the masses. With the implementation of quite a number of benevolent rules, he was respected by the peasants there. During the Cultural Revolution, he was purged and struggled against. Fortunately, he was spared from further mishaps because the peasants hid him. At present, he is a Secretary of the Zhanjiang Prefectural Party Committee and has been successful in his strenuous efforts to boost grain output.

LIANG Lingguang is a Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and First Secretary of the Guangzhou Party Committee. In an article on 7th October 'Ming Pao' said that LIN Ruo is a former director of the 'Nanfang Ribao' (Southern Daily) and that if he is not made Governor he will be given an important post on the Guangdong Provincial Party Committec.

close to a self-criticism.

The article, published in the latest edition of 'Red Flag', also said the rectification campaign to be offici- ally launched within the Party next year would be tested in several Party committees in Beijing over the next few months.
