China has told Japanese trading firms that it does
not approve of sales of Chinese goods to South Korea via Japan, in an apparent sign of closer ties between China and
North Korea.

The leading Japanese daily 'Asahi Shimbun' said in a front page article that the Chinese policy was conveyed by Chinese trade authorities to Japanese trading companies dur- ing the Guangzhou Trade Fair, which ended on 5th November. The step apparently ties in with China's recent bid to streng- then its relations with North Korea, Asahi said.

(Moscow) Soviet Foreign Minister Andre Gromyko met
here today with HUANG Hua, Chinese State Councillor and Foreign
Minister. HUANG came as China's special envoy to attend the funeral of Leonid Brezhnev, the late President of the Presidium
of the USSR Supreme Soviet.

He expressed deep condolences over Brezhnev's death on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National
People's Congress, the State Council and the Chinese people and Gromyko expressed his thanks. During the reception, the two sides exchanged views on eliminating obstacles to pave the way for improvement of Sino-Soviet relations. The talks were held in a candid but peaceful atmosphere.
