Information from Vietnamese Refugees - LAM 1774 'B'

Af3/12

I attach seven copies of a report concerning a sub-group of

L/M 1774 which was placed on board this vessel by the Chinese authorities in Hainan Island on 2nd August 1982. They subsequently arrived in Hong Kong on 9th August 1982.

20

This group originally consisted of 24 who departed Nha Trang, South Vietnam on 22nd May 1982 and sailed eastwards intending to land in the Philippines. After four days their engine broke down and they drifted for about 15 days before reaching land. By the time they reached Hainan Island 12 of their number had either drowned or died from hunger or thirst.
