HONG KONG REFUGEES
From: TIM EGGAR, M.P.
There is increasing concern within the Hong Kong Government
about the likelihood of resettlement for all the refugees
proving to be possible. At the moment arrivals are significantly
exceeding resettlement. The cost, although most of it is
borne by the UN, does not appear to be a worry.
It is too early to judge whether the policy of closed camps
is likely to be effective.
So far nobody has taken up the
offer for return to Vietnam or provision for onward journey.
