In Brian Adams' absence on leave, I am copying to you a letter dated 23 July from the High Commissioner for Refugees, together with a copy of the Ambassador's acknowledgement, concerning a renewed resettlement effort for Indo-Chinese refugees.
2.
In his letter the High Commissioner has pointed to a number of ways in which he hopes the UK might contribute to this renewed effort. These concern principally:
(a)
(b)
(c) (d)
a new programme for resettlement of Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong;
more liberalised criteria for family reunification cases; a more rapid processing of such family reunion cases; and finally, a specific number of cases, where there is a particular vulnerability because of age, social situation, or disability, to be included in any new quota.
3. I should be grateful if you could do the necessary copying to those concerned in the Home Office, and elsewhere as necessary, and although we do not necessarily anticipate a positive response, we look forward to having your reply in due course.
