BACKGROUND NOTE

The information in the answer has been supplied by the
Hong Kong Government, who were consulted by telegram.
2.
The figures include ex-China cases, ie Vietnamese
refugees settled in China who subsequently entered Hong Kong
illegally and are awaiting return to China.
3.
Ex-China cases are always included in answering
Dr Marshall's regular questions on the number of Vietnamese
refugees in Hong Kong.
