TALKING POINTS
UNHCR RESETTLEMENT MEETING April 22, 1982
I wish to compliment the High Commissioner and his
staff for the thorough preparations which preceeded
this meeting. The world community is fortunate that
these serious matters are in the hands of capable
persons.
Over the past 7 years, my government consistently
has manifested its concern for the lives and welfare
of Indochinese refugees. That concern continues.
However, we all must recognize that such problems are
dynamic and that their resolutions can be furthered
only through an ongoing reassessment of the issues
By organizing this meeting, UNHCR has provided an
opportunity to do so. We welcome this opportunity.
