ICAO REGIONAL AIR NAVIGATION MEETING FOR ASIA AND THE PACIFIC

When we met in London towards the end of August you suggested to me that this Division of the Department of Trade, in addition to the Hong Kong Government and the CAA, should be represented at the RAN Conference in Singapore in January.

We have considered this suggestion carefully, and have talked to Messrs Grove and Peacock at the CAA. Our conclusion - having regard, among other things, to the constraints on our travel and subsistence budget - is that we would not be justified in sending anyone from IAT Division. However, the CAA repre- sentatives will be briefed by the airlines, the FCO and ourselves, and should therefore be fully familiar with our policy objectives by the time the Conference starts. In any case, it remains our hope that the Conference will be predominantly technical in character.

Needless to say, if unexpected problems of a more political character arise the delegation will always be able to refer back to London for advice.
