1. Mr Durie's minute of 3 June and Mr March's letter of 3 June attached. I have discussed with Mr Durie in the light of

Mr Bremridge's recent calls. Mr Durie agrees that Mr Bremridge's line on the airport was generally discouraging and that it would be wrong to move quickly on the proposal in paragraph 3 of

Mr March's letter of 3 June for a working paper to be passed to the Hong Kong Government. Meanwhile, however, Mr Caines will have been able to discuss the matter further with Mr March. On his return DOT will contact us to discuss further action.

Incidentally, Mr Durie said that he is leaving his job in 2 weeks' time to go to the Cabinet Office and is being succeeded by a Mr Tony Hutton.
