At the dinner which he gave at the end of the talks Brian Keep repeated this to XIN Ying, the Head of the CAAC Guangdong Regional Administrator, making it clear that the Hong Kong planners were now concentrating their efforts entirely on Chep Lap Kok. He mentioned noise and other environmental factors and the possibility of bird strikes as among the reasons which had influenced the decision. He also said that if (as the Chinese confirmed) the Shenzhen authorities intended to build some kind of airport in Shenzhen in due course it would be best for Hong Kong's airport to be sited as far south as possible. XIN asked two or three questions which indicated that he was knowledgeable on the subject of Deep Bay but appeared to accept that the arguments against it were strong.
