This is a system of potentially independent parallel runways aligned 075°/255° (T). The northerly runway F

1 is common to Scheme "A", and a southerly parallel runway F2 is constructed 1500M to the south and west of it. (Southerly runway coordinates are approximately 810600E, 834600N, 814180E, 835530N.) Straight approaches would be conducted to both ends of both runways. Independent parallel approaches may be possible, although these are normally operated with considerably greater airspace volumes than are available here. The scheme does not meet the constraints of Para 1.3. However, as it could be a means of overcoming the capacity limitations of Scheme "A", within certain limitations, it was considered worthwhile to study it further.

3.6. 1 Departures

The departure routes to the northeast from runway F1 of this scheme are the same as those for Scheme "A"

Three departure routes to the NE from runway F2 have been identified similar to those for runway F F1, i.e., straight ahead. Tolo Harbour/Tathong Point and Cheung Chau departures These routes discussed in detail at Appendix B are constrained to a degree by their juxtaposition to high ground making them less attractive than those for F1.

-

In broad terms, departures from F2 to the northeast would serve many of Cathays' regional routes, but could not serve, for example, routes to Japan in many conditions at design

temperatures. The runway is only viable as an adjunct to runways F1 or D.

3.6.2 Approaches (See Figure 2-4)

Approaches from the northeast are within the border corridor and appear to achieve the OCH's of the planning criteria. The ability to achieve fully independent parallel approach procedures within the airspace constraints would require extensive study.

It is with respect to approaches from

to approaches from the southwest that the scheme fails to meet the constraints of Para 1.3. Approaches from this sector would pass over or near the island of Nei Ling Ting, (See Figure 2-4). Straight-ahead or

or Tolo Harbour missed approaches achieve the CAT I and II criteria.

3.6.3

Noise Exposure Forecasts

Noise contours were developed for Scheme "B" with conditions similar to the Scheme "A" initial operating assumptions. Seventy percent of operations were assumed to be to the northeast. Northeasterly departures were assigned to

assigned to the early turn, Tolo Harbor turn, and straight-out paths in the same manner; however, in this scheme, some departures were also assigned to the southerly runway.
