for written reply on 8 June.

2. The draft reply is uncontroversial and has been agreed by Hong Kong

and Peking.

3. This is the first time that Sir Bernard has, in the last three

years at least, shown any interest in Hong Kong. He is not a member of the Anglo-Hong Kong Parliamentary Group and it may be his

interest in the Falkland Islands which has led to this question.
