He further said that he had stayed in Hong Kong briefly on
two occasions when he visited other places by way of Hong Kong in 1934
and 1937. After a lapse of forty odd years (and from what he sees today),
he felt that there had been great changes after he had had his 8-day visit
in Hong Kong and Macau, more rapid developments are specially found in
Hong Kong's industries, traffic, monetary affairs, trade, and town
development. This is inseparable with the ever diligence shown by the
compatriots of Hong Kong and Macau, demonstrating in full their intelligence
and capabilities.
LIANG Lingguang pointed out that historically, there had been
very intimate relation between Guangdong and Hong Kong/Macau and it would
be advantageous to both parties in promoting incessantly the prosperity
and development of the economics and culture of these places. They were
pleased to see that more and more patriotic people from all circles in
Hong Kong and Macau flow in to support construction in the inland since
the implementation of special policies, adoption of flexible measures
and a more open attitude in Guangdong. Not only can the local scientific
technology and capital be fully put into swing, Guangzhou can also learn
from Hong Kong the many experiences in economic management, town planning and such like aspects. With more extensive cooperation and exchange in economics, technology and culture among the three places, there are very bright prospects lying ahead.
He stated that Guangzhou Municipality being the capital of
Guangdong and the economic centre in South China, both the Central and the Provincial (Government) demand them to speed up their development.
And for that, they themselves have to double their efforts on one hand,
correcting in a positive manner the shortcomings and problems found
existing in work; on the other hand, they welcome energetically patriotic people from all circles in Hong Kong and Macau as well as compatriots come forward with their plans in effecting constructions in Guangzhou, making more criticisms, giving them assistance, undergoing wider
