Dear Munay, тишку.
MY VISIT TO HONG KONG
1.
I have been meaning to write to you for some time about the timing of my next visit to Hong Kong, As you will remember, I was last out in May 1981 and should really have paid another visit before now. However, it seemed to me that this would not be a good idea at a time when you were all tied up with the Lord Privy Seal's visit and the preparations for it. Moreover, Henry McQuade paid his visit in the Autumn and there was no point in our falling over each other.
2.
In principle, I should of course like to fix a date reasonably soon. But clearly, with your departure and Teddy Youde's arrival,, everyone in Hong Kong will be extremely busy and I do not want to get in the way. On balance and after discussion with Teddy it seems to me that the best thing would be to postpone a visit until the new Governor has arrived and settled in. But I should be grateful for your views. I would of course be happy to come out earlier if you thought it would be useful, although I should prefer not to do this before the second half of March since I expect to be taking a Chinese examination at the beginning of that month.
