Notes on Visit to Iting King by the Director of Communications
Ochiba 1982
I am glad to be able to record that all concerned
in Hong Kong expressed great satisfaction with the
arrangements made for communications. Several people,
from the Governor downwards, expressed their personal
satisfaction with the work and co-operativeness shown by
Mr Day and his colleagues from the Cypher and Signals
Branch. The Governor reported that he was very happy
with his Brahms set, the value of which had been proved
time and time again in recent weeks. I was informed
also that the BDSMO operation was also running well.
Although no major points were raised with me, I conclude
that my visit to Hong Kong was of value, both to the
staff of the Governor and to the Trade Commissioner's
Office and from the point of view of demonstrating
continuing interest on behalf of senior personnel in
the Communications Division in the various aspects of
our communications work there. The following paragraphs
amplify some of the matters raised with me.
2.
I was concerned to establish what arrangements
existed for emergency, main line communications, in the
event that there was some break in the service provided
the by Cable and Wireless. I was more concerned to probe
wasim
this point on discovering that the British Forces in
Hong Kong at present use Cable and Wireless' services
for most of their communications back to the UK.
My findings were generally reassuring.
