18. As a final word, I have to place on record my appreciation of and gratitude for the efforts made by colleagues in all the missions I visited to ensure that my tour was a success. Their hospitality was of the kindest (indeed I sometimes felt as though I was eating my way through Asia) and the care which was expended on the details of my programme was exemplary. On a couple of occasions I was told that missions welcomed visits of this nature since they provided an excuse for making new contacts, or refurbishing old ones, amongst the local politicians and notabilities.
