In view of the several considerations explained by Mr Hall, we do not see a need for further action at present on this potential problem. However, we shall continue to watch Sino/US relations with our usual attention.

3. Incidentally the French also have a Consulate-General in Shanghai. Sino-French relations are not as good. as Sino-British but better than Sino-US.
