I am heartened when I look also at our exports to you.

We have no prescriptive right to do well in your

challenging and competitive market. We would not

seek it. We have the benefit of our long standing

relationship with you, and our appreciation of your

legal and financial framework. But in the end our

success will depend on our own efforts on that

competitiveness which I stressed earlier. We offer

an advanced, competent and comprehensive manufacturing

sector, a highly skilled service economy and a

capacity to put together very attractive large scale

packages of goods, technology and finance. We shall

continue to interest ourselves greatly in the development

of your economy, notably the further infrastructure

projects for which we can offer you a good deal.

We realise Hong Kongis more than railways and electrical

power. So we have an eye also to other areas like your

attractive market for quality consumer goods, building

and construction and electronics. We hope our growing

expertise in the advanced products of information

technology, to which we are paying so much attention,

will be of increasing interest to you.
