Mr Elliott Far Eastern Department
Prime Minister's Visit to Japan, China and Hong Kong
Pans 117
The Secretary of State is content with the timetable in your submission of 9 July and the draft letter to No. 10 has issued slightly amended. The Secretary of State is concerned not to make too big a thing of the meeting on 21 July, which he sees as a private briefing before Lord MacLehose sees the Prime Minister on 23 July. The Secretary of State agrees however that it would be useful if Sir P Cradock, who is already in London, were to attend on the 21st and if Sir E Youde were to return for the meeting on the 28th if the Prime Minister is content.
