For the record, Miss Fenwick in Private Office consulted me on 1 February on behalf of No.10 about à proposal for the PM to give lunch to the Chinese Ambassador before her visit to China. Her diary was filling up rapidly well into June/July. After consulting you I told her:-

it was far too early in our view to think about
a date for such a lunch (the origins of which lay on papers about Sir Y K Pao);
for our part we would probably prefer to propose a meeting in due course rather than a lunch, but such a proposal could not anyway be made for several months;
but No.10 should be forewarned that the Chinese Ambassador would almost certainly himself invite the PM to a meal shortly before her visit;
in sum, a meal at Chinese invitation might have to be allowed for in the PM's diary, and the FCO would be in touch again about the desirability of a meeting.
Miss Fenwick undertook to pass this on, and to let me know of any reaction.
