BRIEF FOR PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO NEI POWER ENGINEERING LTD :
12 MARCH 1982
General
The Prime Minister may like to:
(i)
congratulate NEI Power Engineering on the completion of the
robot welding workshop facilities and the overall good progress
on their major investment programme, undertaken with Government
financial assistance.
(ii)
point to NEI Ltd's strong trading results and good export record
as indicative of the Group's successful integration since its formation 5 years ago.
Specific Issues

welcome NEI Projects' involvement in Indian super thermal power
station project and hope progress can be maintained towards
securing the contract. Stress importance of major export projects
to UK industry.
express HMC's concern at the Group's overall lack of success in wiming major power plant orders. Repeat HMG's wish to help
NEI Parsons score a major success.
point to Departments' concern at NEI's project management at
Khartoum North. Note that NH are identifying ways to retrieve
lost time and hope these will prove effective.
