Visit by the Lord Privy Seal
Dr. Legg, the Director, gave an account of the genesis, functions and present state of the Hong Kong Polytechnic stressing its achievements particularly the acceptability of its graduates to employers.
2.
The Secretary for Education described the current position in post-school education in Hong Kong and gave an indication of future plans including the Vocational Training Council bringing together industrial training with technical education and the possibility of a new polytechnic.
3.
H.E. the Governor, Sir S.Y. Chung, Chairman of the Polytechnic Council and Mr. S. L. Chen, Deputy Chairman, were present.
4.
There was discussion regarding the requirement to relate education and training to the needs of the economy and the community.
