A Framin

I have just been re-elected as Chairman of the British/Chinese Parliamentary Group and I am instructed by the Group to write to you. We are particularly concerned that the Hong Kong situation is becoming a dangerous deterrent to the maintenance of good relations between Britain and China.

Earlier this year the first ever official IPU delegation to the People's Republic took place from the British Parliament, and there is a general wish that further visits should take place.

The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to see whether the Foreign Office is in a position financially to facilitate a further visit by an All-Party Group of Members of Parliament to the People's Republic.

The Right Honourable Francis Pym, MP,

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Foreign and Commonwealth Office,

King Charles Street,

London, S.W.1.
