1. At the end of July Sir Patrick Wall MP had an exchange of letters with the Prime Minister on this visit, resting with the PM's reply of 4 August. He has now sent us a voluminous report of the detailed discussions in each post. In FED's view no reply is needed, and the Clerk to the Committee has confirmed to me that Sir P Wall is not expecting one; but you may be interested to glance through. As far as we can tell, nothing in the report contradicts the impression given in telegrams from the posts, namely that this was a useful and timely visit.

2. I understand that the MOD have received their own complete copy. I suggest that this copy might be filed with Defence Department (since it would be undesirable to split it bet

between NAD, FED and HKGD).
