Less than a week after my Committee's informal private meeting with you we met Bill Dorward, the Secretary for Trade and Industry in the Hong Kong Government. We were astonished to be given by him a rebuttal of some of the points you had made at our private meeting the previous week. The burden of his argument was that in four out of five sensitive categories of clothing Hong Kong's average unit prices were higher than those of the USA.
We were concerned less about the substance of the argument important although that is -- than about the breach of confidentiality relating to our private proceedings at Westminster. We take a serious view of the disclosure to third parties of the private proceedings of the House's Committees, which is quite contrary to the House's rules and practices.
