problems you are having to cope with being within the Department
of Trade other than in the other departments?
(Mr Checketts) Yea,
Mr McNally
170. Could I just turn the pattern over to the responsibility
of industry itself on the large projects. I think we found
last year on our visit to the Far East that there is considerable
national prestige to win these contracts and the halo effect,
if they have done well, other industries and the country benefits.
Are we as good as other countries in making sure that the right
consortium is the lead consortium and do we tend to elbow each
other out and are other countries better in making sure that the
Italian, or the German or the French or the Japanese or the Korean
bidding for a prestige project are the ones getting all the
support and there is not a national rival to aid to the international
competition?
